IMO, to be a genuine icon in American hip hop, an artist must truly represent a rags to riches story. Otherwise, its pseudo/watered down rap music, not hip hop. This is why songs like Drakes Started From the Bottom record are so widely hated by real hip hop heads. This mf started from the middle-upper class, fool! The top was in SIGHT from jump for you!! lol! True heads love the rags to riches stories because the majority of American youth are attempting their OWN rags to riches story and look to the street poets narrating this strugggle as beacons of encouragement. The guy that had everything handed to him far less likely to catch our attention, and for damn good reason. #JustSmokinAndThinkin
