IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA: I keep seeing analysts, opinion makers - TopicsExpress

IMPACT OF SOCIAL MEDIA: I keep seeing analysts, opinion makers belittling the role of social media or the impact it actually has. They brush it aside as non representative with limited or zero value. Funny enough same people spend half of their day either posting something on social media (own content) or sharing the work of others. Media in general and social media in particular is the new frontier. Battles - be it political, or between countries will be won or lost due to the power of Media - with social media becoming the nucleus. Electronic or print media is Primarily One way, whereas Social Media is interactive, has voice from ground up, It is timely, is far more Original, paints much more truthful picture than whaever we have seen so far. Simply because the content in major part is for the people, by the people and most importantly of the people. Couple of key Stats: - By 2015, one in every 4th person in the world will be on Social Media. It will be touch a poplulation of 2B (Total world population will be 8B). - In Pakistan, estimated social media users are around 15M. These are people who have created accounts from Pakistan and does not include Pakistanis abroad, who may have created the account from their respective countries.(I would guess add few more millions to it). One year ago, this number was approx. 9-10M - Incredible growth. More than 70% above the age of 18. Discount for duplication, fake accounts. In reality this makes it an estimated 9-10M people on Social media who are in one way or the other involved or contributing to on going debates. Do not trivialise it or underestimate the power of it. If you think 10M is a small sample size - WELL; Think again!!!
