IMPORTANT - READ ALL THIS TO BE INFORMED CENTENNIAL COMMITTEE MEETING HELD MARCH 10 A lot of items were discussed at the recent Halliday Centennial Committee meeting, Monday, March 10, at City Hall, after a great potluck meal. Attendance was 20. INSURANCE Because the Lions Club is sponsoring the Centennial Celebration, there will be liability coverage for the weekend at no extra charge. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO MONITOR KIDS First, there will need to be at least 16 volunteers to monitor the children on the inflatable games like bouncy house, slide, etc., on Saturday afternoon from 1 pm to 4 pm. Each volunteer could take one hour to monitor the kids playing with these inflated play areas on the lot across the street from the Union Bank. If you are coming in from a distance to the Centennial Celebration, this would be an ideal way to help out the locals. Please message this group leader or call Lions Club president Carolyn Klopp right away. HORSESHOE TOURNAMENT Rod Wilhelm and Duane Saari will be coordinating a horseshoes tournament at the park (now covered by a foot of water). If you want to be in the tournament, give Rod a call at 714-345-5540 to register for the tournament. QUILT SHOW WITH STORIES Zoe Johnson is coordinating the quilt show in the City Hall building. She is looking for local quilts, especially antique quilts made by grandma, or any quilts that have a story. Give Zoe a call at 701-692-0106. CAR SHOW PLUS Duane Saari and Alvin Weidner will be running the car show. There will be 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place trophies for the winners. Judges will be all the owners of vehicles entered in the show. Call Duane at 715-919-1626 to enter your cars or tractors or whatever in the car show. Someone mentioned contacting the DC Cruisers, a Dunn Co. car group, for their participation. After the parade, all the cars and vehicles in the car show will be lined up the center of Main Street, which will be closed off for the day except for the parade. PARADE PLANNING Jennifer Kuntz and her family members will be putting together the parade and are planning a parade route. Call Jennifer to let her know what you will enter. Her number is 701-260-6957. Arrangements are being made by Jennifer for someone to sing the national anthem. So far the parade would consist of the American Legion and Legion Auxiliary marching with some elderly veterans in cars following. Also in the parade will be cars from the car show, fire trucks, and the ambulance. Floats or show cars may be entered from school class alumni, businesses, churches, or other groups. Farm or ranch families could enter floats, along with other local families. If a team and driver for horse-drawn hayrides can be found (Rod Wilhelm is working on that), the wagon will be in the parade. People may ride in the parade on horses, bicycles, motorcycles, four-wheelers, walking, clowning around, throwing candy, or whatever. CITY MAP TO BE AVAILABLE Barry Van Wagner will be preparing a printed map of the City of Halliday to pinpoint for guests where all the events will be held. The map will also show the approved parade route. PLANS FOR TENT A decision was made to obtain a tent for shelter from sun or rain to be set up near the action in the park and Main Street. Mercer County has tents for a fee, possibly starting at $500. Rod Wilhelm will help fund the cost of the tent. People are encouraged to bring their own canopies and set them up in the park and bring plenty of lawn chairs. CAKEWALK Judy Boepple will be coordinating a cakewalk on Main Street Saturday afternoon. Volunteers are needed to help call people to bring cakes. If someone can help, they can call Judy at 701-938-4338. VENDORS There will be a cotton candy and smoothies vendor. Free ice cream will be served at the City Hall by the Legion Auxiliary on Saturday afternoon from 1 pm to 3 pm. The community is grateful to the Union Bank for providing a free barbecue supper on Saturday evening but for the other meals, the question arose, “How do we feed 400 to 500 people?” For Saturday morning breakfast from 8-11 am, local churches are providing baked goods like rolls, pies, or doughnuts along with coffee, orange juice, and chocolate milk. This will be on a freewill donation basis and the funds will go to a worthwhile cause in the community. There are several vendors so far, providing meals on Friday night or Saturday, possibly on Sunday as well after the community church service. Jodeo’s Café will be busy serving meals. Jodeo’s Café also has a chuck wagon cooking. O’Briens Irish Pub and Grill will serve food. Arliss Voegele will be asked if she can vend fleischkeuchla and burgers, etc. Contact will be made by Thueson’s for a Mexican vendor out of Dickinson. Other vendors interesting in providing meals during the weekend should check in with Lions Club president Carolyn Klopp at 701-938-3419 or Michele Kuntz at 701-260-4055. CENTENNIAL BOOK The Centennial Book is almost finished being put together. It will be sent to the printers this week. T-SHIRTS MAY BE ORDERED The price of Halliday Centennial T-shirts is posted on an earlier date in the Halliday Centennial FaceBook page.
