IMPORTANT BASEBALL and SOFTBALL INFORMATION Baseball and Softball signups will be January 24th, 31st and February the 7th at Clifdale, Cannons (Ruritan Building) and the Cowpens Subway from 5 – 7 PM. The price will be $85.00. Girls softball will be split. 5 and 6 will play co-ed T-Ball. Softball will be grouped into 7 8 9 and 10 11 12 to be more inline with the county and prevent younger girls from getting hurt. The final registration will be @ Broome on the 8th from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM The below dates are placeholders. We may need to move them but you will be notified in advance. A MANDATORY coaches meeting will be held immediately after the last signup for ALL Baseball and Softball Coaches. There will be new rules to every baseball age group to comply with USSSA rules. We will no longer be a part of Babe Ruth. You must be certified and have your coaches certification present on that day. No certification – no coaching. Either the coach or the assistant must be present. If you were a coach last year or interested in being a coach for 2014 you MUST attend this meeting. We will accept Babe Ruth, NAYS.org USSSA or ASA level certifications. Teams will be setup the week of February 10th. The actual date will be posted. Coaches can only keep / protect 5 players from a team from last year. Coach or an assistant coach must be present. If no coach present, players will be randomly picked for that team. Each coach will be asked to get a sponsor of $100 or more per team to help the league. Practices will start on Feb. 17th Uniforms will be ordered at this time. March 17th starts pre-season tournaments. Regular season start on March 24th Pictures will be taken on March 29th. (If we have uniforms) We are going to work a schedule with Hillbrook and Chesnee this year as well. Regular Season ends on the week of May 12th County wide tournaments begin on May 19th. All-stars will begin in June. Dates to be determined. Below are the rules that will change for 2014: (please note the changes in 5 and 6 – 7 and 8 along with the bat and pitching rules in the older age groups.) No late registrations unless board approved. No more than 1 late registration per team unless Board approved. Only 3 out of District players per team unless Board approved. Coaches are allowed to keep 5 players they’ve coached on a prior team with parental consent. Other players will be in open draft. Coaches present for the draft will draw numbers to determine pick order. If coaches aren’t present, a team will be chosen for them by Board members and present coaches. Incoming coaches to each age group are encouraged to assist a coach with an existing coach in that AG. Existing coaches per age group takes precedent over incoming coaches unless Board approved. All head coaches are required to participate in a BHS coach sponsored clinic before being allowed to a coach. Coaches are encouraged to build practice plans that are in-line with Broome High School Athletic Department principals. Coaches have to be approved and can be removed at any time for conduct by the D3YSA Board of Directors. D3YSA “All-Star” and summer league coaches within District will be chosen by D3YSA Board Members. Single A USSSA Rules 5/6 Coaches pitch– 60ft. bases. To stop play, the defense must get possession of the ball in the circle (12ft diameter) or stop the lead runner. Over hand or under hand pitching, no closer than 20 ft to the plate. Can play with a catcher or 5 infielders plus the pitcher. Outfield must be 10 ft behind the bases. 3 outs per inning. 1hr. time limit or 6 innings. No new innings after 45 minutes 6 run rule per inning. 5 pitches per batter, the last pitch can be taken from a T but this is discouraged. All kids bat and play the field. 2 coaches allowed in the outfield to help with defense. NO BALL ROLLING TO ANY BASE - An attempt to throw must be made. 7/8 Machine pitch- 60ft. bases. Machine setting of 9/3/3 and/or (38-40 mph). Machines will be clocked to determine settings. Machine placed at 42 ft. Must stop the lead runner. Play with 4 outfielders and play catcher. Must bat the bench – no subs. 1hr 15min game or 6 innings. No new innings after 1 hour. 6 run rule per inning. 5 pitches per batter. 3 swings and they are out. Bunting is allowed. If a batter shows bunt, they must bunt or take the pitch. They cannot swing after showing bunt. Fielders are allowed to cover bunt; however pitcher must not advance past machine until ball is pitched. 1 coach allowed in the outfield to help with defense. If the batted ball hits the machine, the hitter is awarded 1st base. If the batted ball hits the coach it is a dead ball do over. No rolling of a Baseball to any player. An attempt to throw must be made. 9/10 Player pitch- 46/60ft, 4 outfielders allowed. No stealing until the ball crosses the plate. Bat the bench no use of subs. Pitcher can re-enter however 3 innings per pitcher per game strictly enforced. 1hr 30min game or 6 innings. No new innings after 1 hour 15 minutes. 6 run rule per inning. See *** 12U Player pitch- 50/70ft, 3 outfielders. Bat the bench and free substitution or bat 9 and play subs. 1 hr and 30 min game or 6 innings. 6 run rule per inning. Balk rule in affect. No re-entry of pitcher at pitching position. See pitching rule. 13U Player pitch- 60/90ft, High School Rules apply. 1hr 45min game or 6 innings. See pitching rule. -3 or -5 BBCOR certified bats are required. See *** *** 6 innings max per week in regular season play. 3 innings per pitcher per game. When makeup games occur in one week, pitching resets after second game otherwise pitching resets on Sunday. Only 1 makeup game per week (3-3-3 innings) allowed during makeup week. Infield Fly is in effect. USSSA Baseball Rules apply where no rule is in place above. No rolling the ball to any base. Big Barrel bats are ok in 7U and above. Not OK for 5/6. All 2-5/8”and 2-3/4” bats must have the current USSSA 1.15 stamp. No Head first slides at the plate.
