IMPORTANT: MIKE HUCKABEE AND COMMON CORE Mike Huckabee will tell you he doesnt support the Common Core as we know it today today. As Huckabee explains it, Common Core was originally developed by states in order to create a national curriculum. And he is right about the history of it. The federal government has since gotten involved-not in writing the curriculum, but in giving grants to states who adopted Common Core. In other words, there is nothing functionally different between Common Core today and the Common Core of a decade ago. So Mike Huckabee does support Common Core as we have it today. And it has been a failure, just as all centralized programs are. The idea of Common Core is to blackmail states into adopting a national curriculum. If a state does not adopt the national standard, then they are viewed and designated as subpar. Common Core is fundamentally opposed to state individuality and innovation. It is also fundamentally opposed to local control. Once a state is compelled to participate in Common Core, local school boards may no longer modify curriculums to suit their students. So to conclude, dont believe Mike Huckabee when he says that he isnt for Common Core. He is for Common Core. He is for a national curriculum. He is against state independence and local control when it comes to education.
