IMPORTANT NEWS: Ok were so sorry that everything has been so quiet since the last event, thank you all for coming and making it another night to remember. The reason weve been quiet is because we have been at loggerheads with the environmental health department of Powys council over sound levels at events. Despite our efforts at the last event we have bee told that the noise is still well above acceptable levels and this has left us in a very awkward position. Essentially no noise must be heard off the premises after 11pm ever again! This is a significant problem for us but a massive and possibly terminal problem for the Workhouse as it basically means that there cannot be any serious music events there any more unless they finish at 11pm. Even noise before 11pm must only be 15dB louder than the required silence after 11. Not one of the many events held there this year would have been possible under these conditions. We have been trying various methods to reduce the noise spill but the best we can achieve at the moment is to remove the sound system from the gallery completely and to have a small system in the main room with no bass speakers at all! Its pretty shocking but it would seem that in this day and age if you like loud music then you can go to hell because theres nowhere in our area now where you can experience anything like a nightclub environment. So the big question Whats happening on NYE? well were prepared to go ahead with a much more toned-down event, we still have some great DJs lined up and are keen to give it a go but we need to know what level of support we have from everyone. Our plan is to put a pub/bar type system in the gallery and covert it into a warm chill out space with sofas, fireplace and comfy stuff. We will still put up some cover for the smoking area and have the outdoor fires too. Our planned theme is LIGHT and were hoping that everyone will come down with their LEDs, torches and glowy things all strapped on. Then in the venue we will have the music as loud as we can possibly get it without breaking the new limits that have been placed on us. It wont be hopelessly quiet but it would be unfair to claim that it will be totally immersive as it has been in the past. The music of course will be of the quality youve all come to expect from WHP. Please let us know your thoughts, if there is enough support we will announce the event this weekend and get tickets on sale. As for the future Im sure the Workhouse will be launching a public appeal in the new year for support with the situation as it looks like there are very real threats of the entire project becoming unviable.
