IMPORTANT NOTICE FOR PANAWAPSKEWI: For Panawapskewi who asked to be informed when another important meeting presented itself to protect our River ~ There will be a special general meeting on Tuesday September 23rd at 6:00 pm at the community building for us to pass our own water quality standards. The tribe has worked on developing our own water quality standards for close to a decade now and this is the final step. We desperately need enough people to attend and pass this important protection for the River. Lisa Montgomery, Kathleen Paul, Gayle Phillips, Charlene Virgilio, Tami Connolly, Jeanne Lewey, Gary McGrane, Erlinda Mesa, Dominic Polchies, Jennifer Neptune As you know, when Penobscot first announced the period for public comment, the Maine attorney general Mills, and the Maine DEP Commissioner, Aho got together and decided to SUE the EPA for not granting Maine control over water in Indian territory. For some reason, the State is hell-bent on controlling our River. Lets be equally hell-bent on protecting our sacred River. This is for Penobscot people only..... BUT great thanks to the many allies who attend the first public hearing and spoke in solid support of the tribe protecting its River. It was a beautiful thing to behold!
