IN MEMORIAM AND A CELEBRATION OF LIFE: ERIKA PAWLUS (LYNN) Alaska Airlines Flight Attendant Erika Pawlus (Lynn) passed away Saturday, Aug. 30 of natural causes. She was 32 years old. Erika began her career with Alaska Air Group in April of 2007. She loved to travel and had a passion for aviation. “Erika possessed an infectious glow that brightened the day for her coworkers and customers, she will be missed very much by each of us at Alaska,” says Andy Schneider, vice president of inflight services. She lived a full life, perhaps best described in her own words – from her 2012 wedding website: I was born at 7:11 a.m. at 7lbs, 11oz. Some may call that lucky, but I treat my good fortune as a blessing. I am the oldest of 3 kids (brother is Matthew, and sister is Allison) and have the best parents in the world (Frank and Patricia). By age 10, I had pierced my ears, owned a bunny named Fluffy, swore off ever drinking milk and survived a rare form of cancer. I grew up in Ohio, and in 1993 my family packed up the van with a turtle, my bunny, and my Dalmatian and drove to Alaska. The next 7 years I lived in Wasilla, Alaska and yes, we know Sarah Palin. I was a drummer for 7 of those years, mostly claiming fame as the sweetest steel drum performer Alaska ever saw. I graduated and spent the next 12 years of my life in Washington. I have a 4-year Bachelors of Science degree in Marketing and Merchandising, as well as a specialization in apparel design; in addition to having met the man I am going to marry on October 20 (2012). I met Nick in 2002. We will have been together a full decade this year. I met Nick on a church retreat and even to this day I can still call him my best friend. We share the destructive joy of our 6 lb. toy poodle, Mercedes, who has been a part of our family since the beginning… Her husband, Nick, included the following on their wedding website: She was studying Fashion Design and I was going to be a pilot one day. So naturally we ran in the same circles. As fate might have it, I randomly (Divine Inspiration) signed up for a weekend retreat. That weekend changed the direction of my life, but that is a long story. The short story is we started dating a few weeks later and we have been together ever since. After graduating, our jobs took us in different directions. It took a few difficult years apart for us to realize that our love was meant to last. For a while, she lived in Anchorage and I lived in LA. Eventually, God gave us the opportunity to move back to Seattle and grow in our relationship. Erika married her husband, Nick, in October 2012 after dating for nearly 10 years. “She exuded happiness and love in all her relationships, leaving a trail of beautiful memories to follow her throughout her travels. For those of us lucky enough to have had Erika bless our lives, her sudden passing leaves a deep void in our spirits that will not be readily filled,” says Nick. “We strongly appreciate the presence of Erika Lynn’s friends and colleagues at the wake and memorial service to offer support and share in a celebration of her beautiful life,” says Nick Pawlus. “All Erika’s friends are welcome and urged to come as they are. Airline uniform attire is not required but may be worn to show support of Erika’s adventurous spirit.” All are welcome to join the wake honoring Erika’s life next Wednesday, September 10 at 7:30 p.m., following a 6:00 p.m. mass at St. Stephen the Martyr Parish in Renton, WA. Please come pay your respects and join us in celebration of our beloved Erika Lynns beautiful life. She touched so many of our lives in her short time with us and left us all with a mind full of wonderful memories. Details: A wake will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m., immediately following a 6 p.m. mass. A funeral mass and reception will be held Thursday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. All services will be held at St. Stephen the Martyr Parish in Renton, WA and are open to all friends and family of Erika. Please RSVP and address cards to Nick Bissen at qxgolfer@gmail; 2223 Benson Rd. S.; Apt. N201; Renton, WA 98055. Erika’s family request that attendees bring photographs or stories to share. A donation fund has been created in Erikas name at Saint Judes Childrens Research Hospital in recognition of the life-saving care she received from them in surviving her battle with childhood cancer. Employees can make a contribution on her behalf online (tribute #36533504; erikalandnick@gmail), by phone, or mail (St. Jude Tribute Program; PO Box 1000; Dept. 142; Memphis TN, 38148-0142). R.I.P.
