IN MY OPINION: I read the story about budget cuts at Florence Elementary, and the decision to drop music and art there. This is a national epidemic. Its a complicated matter, but cutting to the chase, it is another example of the institution of public education refusing to recognize that teaching/fostering/encouraging CREATIVITY is as essential as the other subjects. In the world of 2025 or so when these kids hit the job market, I suggest their ability to create and adapt to sudden change will be more important to them (at least as important) than their ability to do long division. I think the education leadership world, at least around here, is getting it all wrong. (This rant on the day I will say a final good bye to my 1st grade teacher, Elizabeth Sheriff.)
