INA_NEWS HP Distributor takes consumers for a ride ‘Sells cylinders in black’ Srinagar, Jan 1, : Severe crises of Hindustan Petroleum (HP) cylinders in Old Srinagar city this winter has led to a major frustration among the people as a particular gas distributor is playing a spoilsport in the distribution and home delivery system by selling cylinders through black-marketing. Consumers Thursday alleged that the sole distributor of ‘Jay Kay Gas Company’ located at Bagh-e-Ali Mardan Khan not only dupe the cunsumers but also sell the HP in black to restaurant and tea stall owners taking them for a ride. A delegation from Nowshera Srinagar told CNS that they have been visiting the gas distributor for last month to get a gas cylinder but every day they have to return dejected as the counter either remains closed or the gas dealer clearly says HP is not available. They alleged that the Gas distributor is selling the HP in black to restaurant and tea stall owners. A consumer Ghulam Rasool Najar who was part of the delegation with consumer ID:137043 said that the said gas agency of HP at Bagh-e-Ali Mardaan Khan has also discontinued home delivery of refills without any rhyme or reason. Even though the agency remained unaffected by September floods, it suspended door delivery only to make profits, the consumer said. Another consumer said that the suspension of door delivery besides breeding corruption has put the consumers in a quandary.“We every day see the hoteliers loading the domestic HP cylinders in load carriers at the counter but when consumers visit the counter for a cylinder they are being asked that the same is not available,” said a consumer. The consumers said at a time when the City has been devastated by floods and there was need for administration to be extra vigilant, public services have worsened. “We used to get the refills on specific days and after making us to wait for hours in this chill, we were told that the refills can be only done through home- delivery and advance booking of the connection. Now, whenever we call on the number that was provided to us that is not being picked by anyone. And when we visit the counter, we are told there is shortage of gas,” said Muhammad Sultan. The delegation informed CNS that after meeting ADC Srinagar, they are hopeful that legal action would be initiated against the distributor. When contacted a senior official of the agency dealing with HP supplies in the City said he would personally look into mater on priority. The Distributor of Jay Kay Gas Company, Tariq Habib held CAPD responsible for the mess saying that department has banned ‘Point Delivery’. Here termed the allegations baseless that he is indulging in black marketing and added that supply from Oil Company is very low as a result consumers are suffering.(CNS)
