INCREASES IN UNITY WATER’S BILLS EXPLAINED Last week, MBRC - TopicsExpress

INCREASES IN UNITY WATER’S BILLS EXPLAINED Last week, MBRC ratepayers on Bribie Island and elsewhere received a flyer from Council explaining why Unity Water’s bills have increased so dramatically. The MBRC flyer starts by explaining that MBRC and Sunshine Coast Council do not own Unity Water even though their websites show otherwise. The flyer goes on to explain that even though bulk water costs only make up about 10–20% of the normal Unity Water bill, all the increases we have seen in the past in our water bills, and all the increases we will see in the future, are the result of increases in bulk water costs which are set by the State Government. The use of Unity Water by MBRC as a backdoor way of increasing taxes has nothing to do with Unity’s bill increases. Those increases are all justified and immaterial. We all need to blame someone else for the increases. In this case it is the previous Labor Government who set in place the price Unity Water pays for bulk water. The flyer also explains that MBRC’s water assets were worth $1.5m when they were confiscated by the State Government even though the Woorim water treatment plant was in such an unbelievably shocking condition that the State Government closed it down immediately after the takeover, and even though discharge from the Bribie sewage treatment plant is so poor it cannot be discharged into Moreton Bay. Readers who enjoyed reading this flyer will also enjoy reading publications like Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carrol, The Book of Australian Nursery Rhyme by Bindi Bindi, and any of the Harry Potter series by JK Rowling. Like the MBRC flyer, these authors turn fairy tales into interesting stories.
