INCREDIBLE PLACE TO VISIT IN ALBERTA CANADA! The new Glacier Skywalk, which opened May 1, is a glass sidewalk cantilevered off a high cliff, 918 feet above the glaciers and pines of the Canadian Rockies. It offers spectacular views and an exhilarating experience. Similar to Arizona’s Grand Canyon Skywalk, Alberta’s $18 million Glacier Skywalk is a fully accessible, semicircular, glass-floored observation platform supported by a steel structure jutting from native bedrock. The Glacier Skywalk affords visitors unparalleled views of the Sunwapta Valley, Columbia Icefield glaciers and the Canadian Rockies. Travel & Leisure recently named it one of its “World’s Coolest New Tourist Attractions,” so even an acrophobe might find it fun. Glass partitions are all that come between visitors and a nearly 1,000-foot fall to the valley below, and there’s little to obstruct the view through the glass floor. But no worries: It’s all stronger than it looks. It’s said to be sturdy enough to support a landing Boeing 747. Still, cautious visitors cling to the railing as they inch their way onto the platform. The intrepid ones lie on the glass floor and snap photos of the scenery. For both, the Skywalk delivers an adrenaline rush. The Glacier Skywalk has already garnered environmental and design awards. Dedicated to a near-zero carbon footprint, the structure was designed using weathering steel, glass and wood, so it functions as an extension of its natural surroundings.
