INLAND EMPIRE AVIATION ROUNDTABLE Royce 4, MIGs 0 Presenter: Captain Royce Williams, US Navy (Retired) January 8, 2015, 7 PM Join us tomorrow night for the first Inland Empire Aviation Roundtable of the year. On November 18, 1952, Lt. Royce Williams, flying one of a group of four Grumman F9F-5 Panther Jet Fighters from the Carrier USS Oriskany off the coast of Korea, encountered seven aggressive MIG 15 Fighters flown by Russian Pilots. When the resulting half-hour melee was over, Royce had shot down four of the MIGs, a record never to be exceeded. His Number 106 aircraft, with 263 bullet and cannon-shell holes, barely made it back to the carrier. For political reasons, this incident was kept secret for over 50 years, while Captain Williams went on to a long, successful Navy Career. Now 89 years old and living in Escondido, Captain Williams will describe this exciting, now-unclassified dogfight, and will answer questions from our Roundtable audience. Admission is free for this event.
