INNISFAIL PCYC SQUASH SUMMER FIXTURES 2014 ROUND 2, WEEK 10 – 7th OCTOBER, 2014 MATCH OF THE NIGHT CODY McCARTHY Versus PAUL KETCHELL 1st Game: 6 - 9 2nd Game: 5 - 9 3rd Game: 9 - 1 4th Game: 9 - 2 5th Game: 9 - 7 Total Points: 38 – 28 HIGHLIGHTS: This was a match between the top player on Line 3, Cody McCarthy, and bottom ranked player, Paul Ketchell, who almost caused a major upset on the night. Paul played with great determination and won the first two games from Cody, playing good squash and controlling the play. Tiredness started to set in for Paul. Cody finally found his form and took control of the next two games, winning them comfortably. In the fifth, Paul fought back strongly but Cody stayed the course playing good length and consistent squash. There were a number of other great matches on the night but the match between Tony Corby and Dave Borgelt ended in a nail biting finish. TONY CORBY Versus DAVE BORGELT 1st Game: 0 - 9 2nd Game: 3 - 9 3rd Game: 9 - 6 4th Game: 9 - 3 5th Game: 10 - 8 Total Points: 31 - 35 HIGHLIGHTS: In the beginning, it looked like it was going to be a white wash with Dave blitzing Tony in the first two games, always retrieving the ball and putting Tony under pressure to force the mistakes. However, in the third game, Tony started to concentrate on hitting good length, pushing Dave deeper into the back of the court. He also made good use of his drop shots, which began to work well and was able to take out the next 2 games to even up the scores. The fifth game was a nail biter and went to 8 all, but Tony stuck to his game plan and won it 10-8 to take out the match. Jason Perske was also in great form on his first night back from the holiday break with an upset win over Tyler Edgerton, who on paper should have won this match comfortably. Jacob has really improved and his drives were impressive and he really thought about where his opponent was on the court. At present, Jacob is our top ranking junior. As advised by Gavin, Lines 4 & 5 had to be merged due to the loss of 4 players so Tyler and James Scullen have been joined into line 5.
