INSERT 87 I dialled Zwelami’s number and it rang for a long time. He never answers unrecognised calls. I was just hoping he’d answer this one… It rang for some time and he eventually answered. Zwelami: Hello? Me: Hey Zwelami. Him: Uhm hello? Who am I speaking to? Me: Really though? -_- He kept quiet for a while. Him: Sorry who is this? Me: Haibo Zwelami. Him: Listen I’m extremely tired and I do not have the time to play hide and seek. Me: Geesh relax Lami! He kept quiet for a second. Last time I checked I was the only one who called him that so he better come to his senses. Him: Owami? Me: Mxm! Him: Inathinkosi is it really you? Me: Yes. You’re such a buzz killer. He laughed. Him: No man I couldn’t recognise your number. I knew the voice sounded familiar but I couldn’t assume it was you because we haven’t spoken in a long time. Me: Ohho Him: How are you and to what do I owe the pleasure? Me: I’m good and I need a lift. Him: So we don’t speak for months and that’s how you greet me? Me: I’m at Park Station and I need you to come get me. Him: When did you arrive? Me: Like 20 minutes ago… Him: Ok I’ll be there in 30 minutes. Me: Hurry up please. He laughed. Him: Ok. Me: Thank you. Bye. Him: See you just now… I hung up. I sat on those chairs and listened to music. I was in a bad mood nje, my feet were swollen and I needed to bath. I’m used to taking a bus at night that way I arrive in the morning. Now I had taken a bus in the afternoon and had arrived in the early hours of the morning. It was around 3am. I sat there for what seemed like an hour till I felt someone tap my shoulder. I took off my headphones and turned. I looked up and saw Zwelami. I stood up. He was smiling from ear to ear. I was also excited to see him but my bad mood overshadowed the excitement. Zwelami: Was the bus ride that bad? Me: Is it that obvious? He nodded and I smiled at him. Me: How are you? Him: I’m great and how are you? Me: I’m ok I guess. I just need to sleep properly… He opened his arms and I got closer to him. He squeezed me and we let go of each other… Him: Ok so where am I taking you? Me: Home. He nodded and then took my suitcase. Him: Let’s go… We walked out of the station and made our way to his car in the parking lot. We got in and he drove off. Him: So what were you going to do if I didn’t answer your call? Me: Probably call a cab. He nodded. Him: Are you good or did the ride irritate you a bit? Me: Both. Him: Ok then. We drove in silence. Him: Would you like to grab something to eat before I drop you off? Me: Yes please. He nodded and drove to the nearest Steers. He ordered the take away and came back to the car and drove off. Me: I don’t want to go home. Him: And then?? Me: I don’t want to go home. He looked at me. I began eating my food. Him: What’s going on? I shrugged my shoulders Him: Why are you even in Joburg? Me: Need to sort out some stuff. Him: What kind of stuff? I shrugged my shoulders. Him: So where do you want to go? Me: Your place. He chuckled. Him: I have a family remember? Me: You wouldn’t come here if you were with Zama… He kept quiet. Me: It’s either she’s out of town or you two aren’t together anymore. He chuckled. Him: Hmkay… He changed the direction he was driving and drove to Morningside. I finished up eating and we drove in silence. After about 30 minutes we eventually got to his place. He drove into some house and parked. We got out and he took my suitcase and led the way. He led me inside the house. Me: Nice… He smiled. Him: Thanks. He led us up the stairs and took me to some room. He put my suitcase down and I sat on the bed. Him: Ok so what’s going on here? Me: Huh? Him: Inathinkosi. Me: I just need to sort out some stuff. Him: You’re speaking in riddles… Me: No man it’s nothing deep. He nodded. Him: If you say so… He stood there and looked at me. Me: So where is the rest of your family? This house is awfully quiet… Him: We’re separated. Me: Shame. Him: Ya well… Me: So where are they? Him: She went to live with her mother. Me: Oh ok. Him: Where is your boyfriend? You’re never alone. Me: I left him. Him: Hmkay. Me: Can I take a bath? Him: Sure. He walked out of the room and I prepared to freshen up. I went to the bathroom, took a shower and lotioned myself. I went back to the bedroom and wore my pyjamas. I got into bed and dialled Thando’s number. It rang for a while till he picked up. Thando: Ina Me: Hey Him: How are you doing? Me: I’m good thanks and you? Him: I’m good, busy working. Me: Oh ok. Him: So you’re at home now? Me: Huh? Him: You arrived safely? Me: Oh. Ya I did. Him: Ngathi awukho sure. Me: No man I’m just tired. Him: Ok then. Me: I’ll call you some other time. Him: Sizwe called me. Me: Ok. Him: Aren’t you gonna ask me what he said? I kept quiet. Him: He wanted to know if you left. Me: Mxm Him: I think he might be in Jozi already. Me: Listen I’ll call you later Thando. Him: Sure. Me: Bye Him: Bye I dropped the call. I took out my laptop and watched movies for the rest of the morning. There was a knock on the door. Me: Come in. Zwelami walked in. Me: Am I making too much noise? Him: No. He came and lay next to me. I carried on playing the movie and we watched it. Me: Are you ok? Him: Ya. I nodded. Me: So my cousins have reached out to my dad. Him: Abobani? Me: Lungile and Mduduzi. He sat up. I had told him what happened to me the time we were together but he doesn’t know the depth of it. He thought it was a once-off thing. Him: What the hell! Me: Yep. Him: Is that why you’re here? Me: Yes. Him: Are you willing to forgive them? I shrugged my shoulders. Him: That’s nonsense. I kept quiet. We carried on watching the movie till we both dozed off. I woke up after some time and switched off the laptop. I put it aside and switched off the side lamp. I pulled the covers and was startled to see Zwelami still next to me. It was so weird. I chuckled for a second thinking about how Zwelami has actually never been inside me :v I covered myself and tried dozing off again then my phone rang. I checked the time and it was around 6am. I answered. Me: Sizwe. Him: Inathinkosi. Me: Ya Him: Where are you? Me: Ekhaya. Him: Unamanga Inathinkosi. Me: Ok. Him: Where the heck are you? Me: Ufuna ngithini? Him: Inathinkosi, Thando called me telling me he’s worried about me. Me: What? Him: You took a bus yesterday afternoon. You’re supposed to be at home now. Me: Kanti ngikuphi manje? Him: I’m going to call your father damnit! Me: Go ahead. He was busy shouting at me when I dropped the call. What the heck is wrong with Thando?? Yisinyefu lomfana maan rha! I do not understand why I keep associating myself with weak boys. It’s actually starting to annoy me now. This back and forth is irritating the shit out of me.
