INSPIRED by how many hours Betsy Brezel works to maintain her incredible 6.5 acre garden, I spent 4 hours nonstop this afternoon in my much more modest one. It looks BEAUTIFUL! First a very responsible, young girl, junior-high-age came to weed, pick up pinecones and rake for an hour. Then I watered the pots on the deck and front porch, sprinkled the lawn in several spots missed by the sprinkling system, edged all the grass and flower beds with the weed eater, fertilized the Rhododendrons, cut back literally hundreds of Shasta daisies, spread Sluggo where I saw those nasty little creatures, fertilized roses with systemic rose food to stop whatever is eating those rose leaves, and used a small shovel to clear the edging where grass is creeping into the flower beds. WHEW! Thank goodness, my husband, Joseph Urlacher, dusted and vacuumed inside!
