INSURANCE Fact-of-the Day: Ill cover an auto fact today. Every NY auto policy has a coverage called PIP -Personal Insurance Protection. It is also commonly called No-Fault coverage because it does NOT matter who is at fault in an auto accident; it is THIS coverage that pays for the initial medical bills of the parties in your vehicle, not the policy of the party that caused the accident. NYS mandates you carry $50k limit. You must believe me that that amount can be exhausted pretty quick. It is incredibly cheap to double that to $100k, or even higher. It is also incredibly cheap to have NO deductible on this coverage. Check your policy or call your agent and check what PIP limit you have. Dont remember this post at the time of an accident when your PIP is being used up. Youre welcome.
