INTERESTING ARTICLE FROM BBC OP ED During the community meetings we had we found that the people did not care about a road THROUGH the Serengeti, that they had no need or desire to go to the villages on either side of the park. What they want and need are better roads from the villages to the nearest large town, which are currently being built with help from the German Government. We still remain concerned that if roads are tarmaced up to the two gates that eventually someone will decide to connect the dots. We also contend that ANY COMMERCIAL highway through the park, whether or not it is gravel will disrupt the migration and have a huge impact on the environment. Just the 2-3 years it will take for the work to grade it and haul in gravel will have a major detrimental effect and will most likely, in and of itself, disrupt the migration. The only viable choice is the Southern Route which the Frankfurt Zoological Society has figured out will only take one hour longer to drive. One hour. I would say that is a small price to pay to save the Serengeti. . . . Please join Serengeti Watch and sign our petition: serengetiwatch
