INTERESTING SELF-DISCOVERY: So, I have a real difficulty in Getting Shit Done. The more complicated, complex, and greater in size of the task, the more difficult it becomes. Sure, lots of people have a problem with this, but I have a pernicious problem with this where something that would take a typical person 3-4 weeks to do can take me many months to get done. Anyhow, Ive been keeping a journal for whenever I do Get Shit Done where I analyze possible factors that enabled it to finally happen. And today, Ive observed something interesting about myself in that regard: Many people find multi-tasking stressful, but I find multi-subtasking stressful. However, when I break down a task into its subtasks and once I finally get myself to do /a/ subtask, I can keep doing the same subtask for quite some time. Once I attempt to switch to another subtask, especially the more I try to switch back and forth between different subtasks, the more overwhelmed I become and more likely I will become ultimately derailed from the task itself for quite some time. So, for example: I am writing up an essay for a Business English certification course that I still havent finished. When I break down the task into subtasks and just focus on that subtask, when and once I get started, I can keep going. So, for instance, only read all potential resources for the essay, then only skim and highlight parts in all potential resources, then only type up those parts from all potential resources into an unorganized document, then only review and select the parts to actually be used from all potential resources into another document, then do a preliminary rough draft incorporating those parts as I go along, and so on. Each step of a task has to be distinct and separate from the other steps.
