INTERFAITH RIVER VALLEY PRESS RELEASE WHO: Interfaith River Valley WHAT: Community Interfaith Gathering WHEN: January 22, 2015 at 6 p.m. WHERE: Arkansas Tech University, West Dining Hall WHY: To build relationships with people from different faith traditions Interfaith Arkansas is coming to the River Valley! We are bringing together a group of faith leaders, community leaders, ATU Students, and other interested representatives to engage in a journey together in 2015. The purpose of the journey is to build relationships with people from different faith traditions and cultures through dialogue, educational opportunities, and service in the community. Since the 1960s, the US has been rapidly growing more religiously diverse. Multi-Cultural and Inter-Religious Diversity, once in metropolitan cities, is now working its way to small towns in Middle America. Americans are struggling to come to terms with their new neighbors. Emotions run the gamut from hostility and fear, to those who want to be better neighbors, but arent sure how to be a neighbor to someone who appears different. In a post September 11 World, inter-religious dialogue and cooperation are no longer luxuries or options. America is coming to a tipping point, a critical crossroads. By the year 2035 the majority of Americans will belong to non-Christian faiths. Faith and community leaders can build walls to protect and separate, or build bridges to unite and cooperate. As the Catholic Rev. Dr. Francis Tiso, who is responsible for interfaith relations and formal dialogues for the Catholic Church in the US, says, There is simply no alternative; we have already seen where the absence of dialogue leads.
