****INTERNATIONAL VACANCY INFO**** Job Title: Public Information Officer, P3 Department/Office: Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs Duty Station: NEW YORK Deadline: 8 November 2013 Job Opening number: 13-PUB-OCHA-28884-R-NEW YORK (X) This position is located in the UN Operations and Crisis Center (UNOCC). This role involves shift work and the Public Information Officer will participate in a 24/7 shift system, contributing to the effective functioning of the Watch Room. The incumbent will be expected to work 12-hour shifts with compensatory timeoff. The incumbent reports to the UNOCC Head of Watch. The functional responsibility for this profile rests with the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Education Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in communication, journalism, international relations, public administration or related field. A first-level university degree in combination with an additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work Experience A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in public information, journalism, international relations, public administration or related area is required. Experience in the use of Ms Word, Power Point, databases, the Internet and electronic media applications is required. At least two (2) years of experience in humanitarian affairs or development at the international level is desirable. Work experience in the field at the international level is desirable. Experience within the United Nations common system is desirable. Experience with crisis communications is desirable. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first-level university degree recognized by the United Nations. Languages English and French are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of French is desirable.
