INTERSTELLAR (between the stars). The stars are a symbol of destiny – that of the future of man. And only family & love – as preached by Jesus Christ – can resurrect man, even from the dead. Christopher Nolan delivers a sermon from the Mount of Cinema using Judeo-Christian religious iconography. INTERSTELLAR is poetic cinema set within the realm of science - & religion. There is still hope yet for man – if he can use his intellect appropriately. These are themes that have been articulated (very, very subtly) in films like Close Encounters of the Third Kind, The War Horse, The Best Offer (Italy), Iron Man 3, Transformers 4, The Equalizer, Life of Pi, Man of Steel & Apokalips X as well as in the writing of Sufi masters such as ibn Al-Arabi, in particular, Fusus al-Hikam (The Bezels of Wisdom). Christopher Nolan has broken through to decipher the semiotics in mysticism to grasp the signs & symbols that God has laid out to for man to understand the path that he must necessarily take. In a century, perhaps only one man is privileged to understand this. The rest have to go on living in a chaotic world, both within & without. See it in IMAX for maximum effect.
