INTRO TO MY INFORMATIVE SPEECH ABOUT Kentucky Dream Coalition!! TELL ME WHAT YOU GUYS THINK :) I’m walking down to the podium to receive my wooded plaque that recognizes me as the star girl pupil of my 5th grade class at my 5th grade graduation ceremony. At this time million thoughts are spinning around in my head. Many of those thoughts have to do with my future and what is to become of me. At this time I’m thinking I can be anything I want. I can be a lawyer, I can be a doctor, and I can even be president if I wanted, but most importantly I can be someone in life. Four years down the road as I’m sitting in class, many of my classmates are speaking about how anxious they are to turn 16 and get their permit. I guess I’ve always known all along that I wouldn’t be able to get my driving permit, but it wasn’t until now that it really sunk in. Two years down the road, I’m walking to McDonalds with a couple of my friends. I know we should all be in school, but school has been such a drag lately. What’s the point of any of us going if we won’t be able to go to college and if we are able to, we wouldn’t be able to work. It’s literally as if we don’t exist to this country. A country we all know as home. One year down the road, I’m sitting the auditorium at school. A lot of my Latino friends are here. We’re all a rowdy bunch when we’re together. It takes about ten minutes to get us all settled down and listen to the speakers they have brought for us. Leaders of a so called Kentucky Dream Coalition start to speak. None of them look older then twenty-five. As they start to speak of college, and of all the lies and misconceptions we have, I start feeling empowered. I have the same feeling I had in my 5th grade ceremony. At that precise moment my life changes. I’m standing here today to inform to all of you what Kentucky Dream Coalition is and of the great things they do for the Lexington Community.
