INTRODUCTION RAJIV AAROGYASRI COMMUNITY HEALTH INSURANCE SCHEME INCEPTION OF THE SCHEME Aarogyasri I is an unique Community Health Insurance Scheme being implemented in Andhra Pradesh from 1st April, 2007. Aarogyasri II started on july 17th 2008. The scheme provides financial protection to families living below poverty line up to Rs.2 lakhs in a year for the treatment of serious ailments requiring hospitalization and surgery. OBJECTIVE OF THE SCHEME The objective is to improve access of BPL families to quality medical care for treatment of identified diseases involving hospitalization, surgeries and therapies through an identified network of health care providers. The beneficiaries of the scheme are the members of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families as enumerated and photographed on the Rajiv Aarogyasri Health Card/ BPL Ration Card. The benefit on family is on floater basis i.e. the total reimbursement of Rs.1.50 lakhs can be availed of individually or collectively by members of the family. An additional sum of Rs 50,000 is provided as buffer to take cares of expenses if it exceeds the original sum i.e. Rs 1.50 lakhs per Individual/family. Cost for cochlear Implant Surgery with Auditory Verbal Therapy is reimbursed by the Trust up to a maximum of Rs.6.50 lakhs for each case. 944 procedures in which 352 surgical procedures are covered under AS1 and 592 procedures in which 433 surgical and 159 medical management procedures are covered under AS II are covered under the scheme. The scheme is being implemented through Insurance Company, selected through a competitive bidding process. Aarogyasri scheme started in phase wise: Phase I: Started on April 1st 2007 in 3 districts(Mehaboobnagar,Srikakulam,Anathapur) with 166 procedures. PhaseII: Started on December 5th 2007 in 5 districts(West godavari,east godavari,chitoor,Ranga Reddy,Nalgonda) with 210 procedures. Phase III:Started on 15th march 2008 in 5 districts(Karimnagar,Medak,Kadappa,Nellor,Prakasam) with 272 procedures. Phase IV: Started on 17th July 2008 in 5 districts(Adilabad, Hyderabad,kurnool,vizag,vijayanagaram) with 330 procedures. Phase V: Started on 17th July in 5 districts(Krishna, khammam,guntur,nizamabad,warangal) with 330 procedures. Star Health Insurance is dealing with AS 1 cases of all districts and ASII cases of Phase I and Phase III districts. CASHLESS TRANSACTION The transaction is cashless for covered procedures. BPL beneficiary can go to hospital and come out without making any payment to the hospital for the procedures covered under the scheme. The same is the case for diagnostics if eventually the patient does not end up in doing the surgery or therapy. As on date 5,00,000 Surgeries/Therapies has been done and this figure changes from day to day. Working pattern of Rajiv Aarogyasri Scheme Who We Are What We Do...?
