INVITATION November 14, 2014 “ Trust and Ethics in the Business between China and Europe” The Sino/Dutch Expertise Perspective The organizers of this seminar want to stimulate cross-cultural understanding between Europe and China and therefore this seminar admission free upon registration for Chinese companies who are interested, or just contemplating, in doing business with European Union. The European Union has a cultural diverse business climate. It is not one country, like China. All the various European countries have different cultures and different legislation, in spite of the general idea of European legislation. Outbound and inbound investment, immigration, visa, business registration and company models, taxes, debt collection, payment terms, terms of delivery and such are different in every country in Europe. This has consequences for risk management, financial business models, tax strategy and takes a clear understanding of ‘’soft skills’’, communicative negotiation. The organizers are all specialist businesses in these fields and have joint together to create answers for Chinese companies and investment groups. Positioning the Netherlands as a gateway to the European Union and to the rest of Europe has very favorable tax advantages as well as infrastructural eases. In the seminar these specialists will focus on the process and on the thresholds in the process, advising on solutions from practice. It is an open seminar which focusses on rich networking and stimulating exchange of ideas, new contacts and business opportunities. Goal: Increase of European Chinese business opportunities and cooperation by strengthen mutual trust in positioning during negotiations, meetings, formal and informal gatherings, enabling more qualities to deal with unexpected situations. The seminar aims to provide: Complete explanation of the entrée process into doing business with Europe Presentations on the above topic with examples from the mediators practice Forum question rounds to answer on case studies asked by the audience Network meeting open to interested parties from all nationalities. Main Organizers: Crossroad Culture Research and Training Agency/ International Cultural Exchange Center, Donghua University. Expectations from clients towards the effectiveness of the law in business conflicts are usually based on personal values and economic motives; personal relationships within culture and society, knowledge about cultural experiences in doing business in the past. These expectations determine the level of experimenting in business, they also evaluate trust in business relations, contracts and joint enterprises and debt collection. In this process the notion of business ethics also plays an important role and for business ethics and the sense of honesty many times the law does not provide tailor made solutions Between the cultures of Europe and China these expectations are, for a large part, translated into concepts of trust, distrust and cooperation. The relationship between business partners evolves in this complicated field of intercultural communication. When conflicts arise, lawyers, mediators and negotiators, sellers and buyers find themselves in the position to deal with the formality of the law on the one hand, and the complexity of intercultural communication, concepts and expectations of trust on the other hand. The seminar “Cultural Concepts of Trust and Ethics” in business and investment relations between China and Europe will be organized for Chinese companies, Chinese investment groups and international law firms interested in business and investment with Europe. Parties and organizations interested in doing business with China are also welcome as we like to stimulate cross cultural communication on these subjects. During the seminar participating entrepreneurs and mediators receive multiple practical examples concerning problems and solutions from the mediation in both European and Chinese contexts. Knowing how to tackle these specific and common problems will speed up negotiation processes and enhance success. After each presentation there will be time for open questions and answers.
