INVITATION Roundtable Discussion (RTD) on India’s expanding maritime interests in Southeast Asia June 13, 2013 Good day! In line with the increasing public interest and attention to our country’s maritime security, the UP Asian Center is pleased to invite you to a Roundtable Discussion (RTD) on India’s expanding maritime interests in Southeast Asia to be held on June 18, 2013 (2:30-4:30) at HW 206-207, GT Toyota Asian Cultural Center, University of the Philippines Diliman, Quezon City. The invited speaker is Maj. Gen. Vinod Saighal (Ret.), India’s former Director General of Military Training. He has previously held active command assignments, including in armoured, mountain and desert formations, as well as a peacekeeping tour of duty in Iran. Fluent in French and Iranian, he was also former Military Attache to France and BENELUX (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxembourg). After retirement, he founded the Movement for the Restoration of Good Government and had lectured extensively in India and abroad on pressing issues of the times. Gen. Saighal is presently Executive Director of Eco Monitors Society, an NGO involved in demography and ecology issues. As a respected and former high ranking military official, he has written a number of books on security issues, including Restructuring South Asian Security, Restructuring Pakistan, Dealing with Global Terrorism: The Way Forward and Global Security Paradoxes: 2000-2020.
