IS JUDGING WRONG??? EVERYONE makes judgments. Its not just Christians. Its anyone who engages in rational thought. Based on their belief people make assessments and make their decisions based on it. Thats what judging is. However, you comment on someones behavior, and your singled out as judgmental. Your told, You shouldnt judge, or its wrong to judge. And if youre Christian, oh man, people will invoke the famous verse Jesus said, Do not judge so that you will not be judged. (Matt 7:1) Yet, making judgments is what rational beings do. Notice even the statement, You shouldnt judge, is a JUDGEMENT. Its an assessment that your behavior (judging) is wrong. That is called a self-refuting statement. They are equally guilty of the very thing they accuse you - judging. Jesus words in Matt 7:1 ARE NOT A PROHIBITION ON JUDGING. Nor is that verse self-refuting because he is not judging all judgments, only HIPOCRITICAL ones. In the context of Matt 7:1, is the following which is usually left out. How can you tell your brother, Let me take the speck out of your eye, and behold you have a log in your eye? You hipocrite, first take out the log in your eye, and then you will see clearly to take the speck out of your brothers eye. So hipocrasy is condemned. But... The Bible commands us to do 2 kinds of judging. First, judicial judgment. This is to pass sentence - Disciplinary action. (John 18:15-20). Second judgment is factual assessment. It is an appraisal of what is wise or unwise, rational or irrational, moral or immoral (1 Corinthians 5:1-2). Not only is this conmanded, but is practiced by everyone everyday. Its how we survive in this world! We make judgments daily. SO JUDGING IS PRACTICED BY EVERYONE REGARDLESS OF THE DONT JUDGE RHETORIC WHICH IS CONTRADICTORY. ITS IMPOSSIBLE NOT TO DO.
