IS SIERRA LEONE A TOURISM DESTINATION? Sierra Leone is such a fantastic country with all the fine pristine environment including idyllic beaches that qualify for a tourism boom. But are we ready to make this happen so soon? When we talk about tourism we even hardly believe that we can make serious wealth out of it.Well our own Tourist Board and of course our press have made significant advocacy for tourism to flourish in Sierra Leone. The tourists have started coming. Their number is yet negligible to make us comfortable and complacent. We need to do aggressive marketing of our tourism potentials both locally and internationally.The hotel infrastructure has to be improved considerably. The new upgraded hotel at Abderdeen,Raisson Blu, formally called Mammy Yoko is a new kick starter. It is a magnificent hotel whose pioneers have set the pace for others to follow.Toursim may not be just about hotels any way.What about our cultural artifacts? What about those Kabala mountains? What about the Bunce Island that connects us to the 400 years Atlantic Slave Trade? For us to have a tourism boom we need to re-focus on our current strategies. Let the stakeholders ignite the revolution. Massive support from civil society and the press would make a huge difference. Let the tourists come and find the paradise that has been forgotten!
