ISIMBI Carlos who is the actual captain of the Thousand Hills RFC U-19 team and also the captain of the Rwanda U-19 national rugby team ,was born in Gikondo ,Kicukiro district in 1997. He did his primary studies in Gikondo as well as his secondary studies at APAPE where he is still studying . He is athletic ever since he was young ,said his friends from primary, he could go to the Don Bosco Gatenga youth center and practice acrobatic moves, bicycles , soccer, etc....he was very good revealed his friends. It just in 2011 ,when he first touched the rugby ball. Along with his friends from Gikondo, who are still his friends ,team mates and neighbors , Jacques , Michel , Jackson , Ferdinand ,Irene ,and Heritié, they started to come at APE Rugunga where senior players were training and just sat on the side and watch . They then loved the game ,they started to play with the ball, with the help of Habumugisha Moise , Nsengimana J. Damour , Serge Shema and Mugabo Djuma Adams , they then become addicted to the game . There were no games for our age, but we could just come and watch senion players during their competitions ,we believed that one day we can also play like them Said Carlos with a smile on the face . He added ; now we play the rugby we used to watch Buffaloes or Lion de fer playing ! I was very happy to win against Buffaloes ,sharks and to play the final with Lion de Fer RFC at the 7s organized but the Federation in September , I was also very happy to win the trophy for the best school in rugby and represent my country to Tanzania , I start to learn a lot and enjoy the game of rugby . I was also on the team that was supposed to represent Rwanda at the U-19 Safaricom 7s in Kenya as well as the independence cup in Uganda ,unfortunately we didnt go ! But I am sure that we will go even farther in the near future . Rugby in Rwanda is not very popular , but people have started to notice it , young boys and girls , primary schools, secondary schools , universities are now playing the game of Rugby . There is a hope that in the days to come , rugby will take over . ISIMBI Carlos continued to say that ,before ,they though rugby was a fighting game , but him and his friends are now laughing at it when they get back to those days and talk about what they though of rugby . He said : rugby is different from other games or sports because ,the discipline ,respect, team work ,support, love, passion, commitment ,focus ,fun and friendship within Rugby is just unbelievable ! I did never imagine that I will play rugby ,but now I cant imagine getting away from it, I love the people ,the game , my team mates who are part of my family now, my coaches , I love everything about rugby ,for me it is a good teacher ! , my vision is to see myself and my team mates ,and Rwanda playing big and international games ,He concluded . Just like everyone who ever played and got involved in the game of rugby , we believe you understand very well what ISIMBI Carlos is talking about. So let get together and support his dream of becoming a rugby idol for many and the idea of developing the greater game in the land of thousand hills.
