ISLAMABAD: The Senate Sub-Committee on Finance directed the authorities concerned to complete the ongoing projects as early as possible. Convener of the committee, Senator Sardar Fateh Muhammad Muhammad Hasni said on the occasion that the bureaucracy is causing delay in the projects which results in increase of the cost of the projects. Terming the Gwadar Water Plant Project as the world’s most expensive project, Sardar Fateh Muhammad Muhammad Hasni said that the machinery of the project, which was initiated for the provision of clean drinking water to the people, has been rusted. He directed to identify the responsibles and submit a report in this regard to the committee. He said that the senate committees are important parts of the Parliament and its members are answerable to the people. He said that the system can be put on the right path by taking strict action against the corrupt people. Taking notice of the differences in briefing and written detail, Senator Fateh Muhammad said that the government departments are playing anti people role as not a single project was completed in time and by following delaying tactics, the original cost of the project increased manifold which caused a huge burden on the national exchequer. The committee was informed that an amount of Rs. 984 million has been issued for the MGD water plant, Gawadar. The installation of the machinery has been completed and after the completion of the project, five million gallon of clean water will be available on daily basis and the consumers will have to pay only 0.7 paisa per gallon. Senator Kulsoom Perveen and Senator Humayun Mandokhel suggested that it would have been better to provide water to the Gawadar project by linking it with the Mirani Dam through pipes. For the project of land erosion in Pasni town, Rs 125 million have been received out of total allocation of Rs 941 million. It was also informed in the meeting that for the provision of water and land for industrial zone in Gawadar, only Rs 60 million were received out of total allocation of Rs 839 million. An application has been sent in this regard to the ministry of water and power for the issuance of funds. The Planning Commission has informed that the required funds would be issued within three days, the committee was told. The committee decided that all the members of the committee would visit all of the ongoing projects of Balochistan. The committee also decided that Auditor General of Pakistan, Accountant General of Pakistan, all former chairmen of Balochistan Development Authority, Secretary Ministry of Finance and Secretary, Ministry of Law will attend the meeting.
