ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has set a thirty day deadline for the auction of 3G Telecommunication licenses. A three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry heard the 3G licence auction and appointment of Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA) chairman case on Monday. During proceedings, the Chief Justice remarked that the PTA chairman and members be appointed within the next fifteen days and 3G licences should be auctioned fifteen days after the appointments. The chief justice further said that in the absence of the PTA, grey trafficking had become a billion rupee business as there was no authority to check it. He added that this might be the reason why the PTA was being stopped from becoming a regulator.
