ISLAND DESTINATION: Fiji ISLAND BAT: Fijian Monkey-faced bat (Mirimi) The global population of Mirimi (Fijian Monkey-faced bat) is estimated at a few hundred individuals, and we fear it may actually be much lower. This bat is only known from one island in Fiji and is threatned from deforestation. BCI, NatureFiji-MareqetiViti, National Trust of Fiji, Dr. Annette Scanlon and others are beginning to work together to secure the Mirimiri’s last known stronghold and will conduct targeted inventories to see if it may be found in other high-elevation cloud forests.
