ISLAND: JAMAICA EMPLOYER: FORESTRY DEPARTMENT FUNCTION: COLLECTIONS OFFICER The Forestry Department is an Executive Agency, mandated to effectively manage the country’s forest resources while serving the interests of our various publics. Suitably qualified and experienced candidates are being invited to fill the following position: COLLECTIONS OFFICER (LEVEL 4) Salary Scale: $902,576 - $1,128,220 Reporting to the Supervisor, Final Accounts & Reporting, the Collections Officer is responsible for the collection, recording and lodgement of public monies received in the Agency, dispatching of cheques drawn on the external funded Agency project and the Agency’s bank accounts and the maintenance of petty cash imprest. Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Collecting funds from customers and from registered mail received in the value book, issuing official receipts and making lodgements to the relevant bank accounts. Preparing and issuing receipts for cash and cheques collected ensuring that the amounts received are correct and receipt is properly drawn. Preparing lodgement for all public monies received and making lodgement to relevant bank account daily. Posting receipts and balancing Receipts Cash Book on a daily basis. Preparing petty cash claim vouchers and entering vouchers with appropriate numbers and amounts in petty cash book; balancing and ensuring correct balances are reported. Maintain petty cash imprest, making cash disbursement upon appropriate authorization and obtain petty cash reimbursements when necessary. Preparing and maintaining contract register. Posting receipted lodgements to the accrual accounting system AccPac and other accounting software on a daily basis. Liaising with internal and external customers on a daily basis by telephone to timeliness in the collection of cheques payable. Maintaining custody of cheques and valuables. Minimum Requirements: Associate Degree or Diploma in Accounting or Certificate in Accounting One (1) year’s related experience OR Any other acceptable combination of qualification and experience.
