ISLE OF MAN POETRY SOCIETY in conjunction with MANX LITFEST 2014 And kindly sponsored by ISLE OF MAN BANK LTD 2014 DOUGLAS POETRY TRAIL 12 September to 5 October 2014 Entries are invited for inclusion in the ‘Douglas Poetry Trail’. The poems will be displayed around Douglas town centre in the lead up to and during the Manx Litfest 2014 (25 to 28 September). The Trail is intended to generate interest in the Litfest, and to promote poetry and literature in the Isle of Man. The Trail will take the form of 20 poems printed on A2 sized posters. These will be displayed at venues linked to the Litfest, or at other locations that are supporting this project. As in last year’s Poetry Trail, we intend to have 20 sites in a walking route around the town centre, and these locations will be promoted in the Litfest brochure. All of the 20 poems included in the Trail will be published in an accompanying booklet, and each successful entrant will receive one free copy. There is no monetary prize. Further copies will be available from the Society office at a modest cost. If you would like to submit a poem, please send it together with the enclosed form and a cheque for £3.50 per entry to the address on the form by Friday 13 June 2014. Entries may be sent by email to the society, but will not be considered for inclusion until the entry fee has been received. The small print: Poems must be all your own work. Poems must be type-written and fit onto one side of a single sheet of A4. If submitting by post, please do not put your name on the manuscript. All poems must be accompanied by a completed entry form and the appropriate fee. Cheques should be made payable to ‘Isle of Man Poetry Society’ and the name of the entrant should be written on the back of the cheque. You may enter as many times as you wish, but no more than one poem per author will be included in the Trail. There is no age restriction, nor is there any residency requirement, neither is there a prescribed theme. Whatever age you are, wherever you live, whatever you would like to write about, we will consider your poem for the Trail. The entries will be judged by a committee from the Isle of Man Poetry Society. They will be looking for poems that will entertain, inspire, uplift, provide food for thought, raise a smile, or touch a nerve. The poems should be suitable for display in public, and be an asset to literature in the Isle of Man, and to Douglas town centre. The judging of entries for the Poetry Trail will be confidential and no correspondence will be entered into regarding the selection. If there are not enough satisfactory submissions to fill at least 15 of the sites available, the Poetry Trail will be cancelled and entry fees returned. By submitting an entry, you agree to your poem, in full or part, being included in the Poetry Trail 2014 and printed in the accompanying booklet.
