ISSUE OF JUNAID JAMSHED Before we analyse the situation there are two important points that I would like to share: 1. Regretfully, Law of Blasphemy is exploited alot in our country. Many people take advantage of this and exploit others. Almost a month ago there was a burning of a christian couple and later on some news reported that it was not a blasphemy rather it was a man who burnt the couple because they were not able to pay off his debt or something by taking advantage of the issue... Moreover, it is not quite long ago that people used to accuse Ahl us Sunnah of blasphemy that they believe Prophet SAW to be dead and a lot more. 2. It is reported that the members of Sunni Tehreek have launched a case against Junaid Jamshed for this blasphemy and said his apology in his video response is not enough and the matter is to be solved in the court. How come Sunni Tehreek has taken this stance? Did they forget their Shia brothers? Unfortunately the brothers from the Brelvi sect also join with them on 10th of Moharram. And what Shias say about Ayshah R.A is not comparable in anyway with what JJ (Junaid Jamshed) said. Why do we remain silent and even sometimes attend their gatherings? Interestingly, Amir Liaqat has also spoken about it and guess what his own video is available on public medias in which he is using blasphemous language against Abu Bakar and Umar R.A. Does it mean I am favoring Junaid Jamshed? Absolutely not! Before we analyse his wordings, I would like to share the Hadith to which he referred to so that his mistakes can easily be identified. حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ يَحْيَى أَبُو زَكَرِيَّاءَ، أَخْبَرَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلاَلٍ، عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ سَعِيدٍ، قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْقَاسِمَ بْنَ مُحَمَّدٍ، قَالَ قَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ وَارَأْسَاهْ. فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم ذَاكِ لَوْ كَانَ وَأَنَا حَىٌّ، فَأَسْتَغْفِرُ لَكِ وَأَدْعُو لَكِ . فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ وَاثُكْلِيَاهْ، وَاللَّهِ إِنِّي لأَظُنُّكَ تُحِبُّ مَوْتِي، وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَاكَ لَظَلِلْتَ آخِرَ يَوْمِكَ مُعَرِّسًا بِبَعْضِ أَزْوَاجِكَ. فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم بَلْ أَنَا وَارَأْسَاهْ لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَوْ أَرَدْتُ أَنْ أُرْسِلَ إِلَى أَبِي بَكْرٍ وَابْنِهِ، وَأَعْهَدَ أَنْ يَقُولَ الْقَائِلُونَ أَوْ يَتَمَنَّى الْمُتَمَنُّونَ، ثُمَّ قُلْتُ يَأْبَى اللَّهُ وَيَدْفَعُ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ، أَوْ يَدْفَعُ اللَّهُ وَيَأْبَى الْمُؤْمِنُونَ . Narrated Al-Qasim bin Muhammad: `Aisha, (complaining of headache) said, Oh, my head! Allahs Messenger said, I wish that had happened while I was still living, for then I would ask Allahs Forgiveness for you and invoke Allah for you. Aisha said, Wa thuklayah! By Allah, I think you want me to die; and If this should happen, you would spend the last part of the day sleeping with one of your wives! The Prophet said, Nay, I too am (in this pain), Oh my head! I felt like sending for Abu Bakr and his son, and appoint him as my successor lest some people claimed something or some others wished something, but then I said (to myself), Allah would not allow it to be otherwise, and the Muslims would prevent it to be otherwise. [Bukhari] ہم سے یحییٰ بن یحییٰ ابو زکریا نے بیان کیا ، کہا ہم کو سلیمان بن بلال نے خبر دی ، ان سے یحییٰ بن سعید نے ، کہ میں نے قاسم بن محمد سے سنا ، انہوں نے بیان کیا کہ ( سر کے شدید درد کی وجہ سے ) عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہاہائے رے سر ! اس پر رسول اللہ صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا اگر ایسا میری زندگی میں ہو گیا ( یعنی تمہارا انتقال ہو گیا ) تو میں تمہارے لیے استغفار اور دعا کروں گا ۔ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا نے کہا افسوس ، اللہ کی قسم ! میرا خیال ہے کہ آپ میرا مرجانا ہی پسند کرتے ہیں اور اگر ایسا ہو گیا تو آپ تو اسی دن رات اپنی کسی بیوی کے یہاں گزاریں گے ۔ آنحضرت صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم نے فرمایا بلکہ میں خود درد سر میں مبتلاہوں ۔ میرا ارادہ ہوتا تھا کہ ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ اور ان کے بیٹے کو بلا بھیجوں اور انہیں ( خلافت کی ) وصیت کر دوں ۔ کہیں ایسا نہ ہو کہ میرے بعد کہنے والے کچھ اور کہیں ( کہ خلافت ہمارا حق ہے ) یا آرزو کرنے والے کسی اور بات کی آرزو کریں ( کہ ہم خلیفہ ہو جائیں ) پھر میں نے اپنے جی میں کہا ( اس کی ضرورت ہی کیا ہے ) خود اللہ تعالیٰ ابوبکر رضی اللہ عنہ کے سو اورکسی کو خلیفہ نہ ہونے دے گا نہ مسلمان اور کسی کی خلافت ہی قبول کریں گے ۔ * صحيح بخاري كتاب المرضى There are several areas of this Hadith that require explanation but i would stick to the concerned issue. Junaid Jamshed has made following mistakes: 1. He said Ayshah R.A was an attention seeker. She would seek Prophets attention. Attention seeking is a private issue between a husband and his wife and is not wrong if it remains in Mehram relations. This is a natural thing between a loving couple or family relatives. They seek each others attention and attract towards themselves because of love and respect. However, the word attention seeking is usually used in a negative sense where one lacks self confidence and seeks others attention in order to overcome his own lacking. Therefore, some other word should have been used which suits to the nobility of Ayshah R.A. 2. He also said that Ayshah R.A was wrapping a cloth just to attract Prophet SAW towards her whereas the Hadith wordings are clear and do not indicate such a thing. Most of the things he said are not found in the mentioned Hadith above. 3. He said woman does not change even if she lives with a prophet. The reference he gave was of a Hadith in which Prophet SAW called woman to be a twisted rib which includes every woman of the world. But the problem here is mainly with the way he said and with whom he related to not merely what he said. If he had said this statement in a general sense it wouldnt be wrong but obviously specifying and relating to a noble character is not appropriate. Therefore, it is good that he apologized. Things he said, - in our opinion - are though inappropriate but do not derive someone out of Islam especially if one repents from it openly and is guilty of what he says. Even in Islam if someone blasphemes the Prophet and then later on openly denounces his act and is guilty and makes sincere Tawbah, - though there is a difference of opinion some - scholars believe that he would be forgiven. And obviously it is not a blasphemy against the Prophet! ---------------- In every thing we have lessons. We learn two lessons from this issue: 1. Do not speak without knowledge 2. Do not become a Daee without proper knowledge. Usually this happens with tableeghi Jamaat. I would like to advise brothers who are part of this Jamaat and others that please for Allahs sake seek knowledge and then stand to speak in front of people. Just because people are willing to listen to you it doesnt mean that you start speaking. And Allah knows Best!
