ISSUE OF THE WEEK #Corporationsarenotpeople This afternoon, I signed the We the People Alaska’s Constitutional Pledge to let Alaskans know that I believe the intent of the Alaska Constitution has always been to protect constitutional rights for individual human beings, and not to grant those rights to corporations, unions, and other “artificial persons.” It is very simple, corporations are not people. Corporations can’t vote, they don’t breath, they are a fabricated entity, not people. They should not have the same rights as human beings in this state- the right for equality and equal representation. As a Mat-Su Borough assembly member, I introduced a resolution to encourage the state legislature to overturn the Supreme Court decision that said that corporations are people in instances of campaign financing.
