IT HAPAPENED TODAY - FAITH IN ACTION! TODAY three thousand persons representing 31 faith groups gathered at the State Fair Grounds in Sedalia, MO, for their annual ingathering. Because of what they did today, and in the year leading up to it, this is JUST A PART of what will happen: *** Tens of thousands of school children in developing countries will receive lovely cloth school bags filled with tablets, pencils, colors, scissors and other needed items. ($15 value) *** Thousands of newborn babies will receive a beautiful layette ($39) *** Thousands will receive a health kit ($10) *** Flood or disaster victims will receive an emergency clean-up bucket ($56) *** Hundreds will receive an IMA Medical Box ($79) *** The blind will receive eyeglasses. *** The leg-handicapped will receive mobility devices called PETs (Personal Energy Transportation) ($250) *** Mothers in labor in the developing world will receive Safe Motherhood Kits ($10) *** Thousands of refugees will receive a warm and sturdy new blanket ($5) *** The rural poor doing sustainable hillside farming in Guatemala and Honduras will receive life-giving animals. *** Tens of tons of potatoes, rice and beans, bagged into small units, will go out to food banks all over Missouri. *** Habitat for Humanity will build houses for low-income families. *** Subsistence farmers in Mozambique will receive cattle and training. *** Garden seeds will go to Appalachian and Delta area families. *** Nurses will receive training in the Ludhiana Christian Medical College in India. *** Rainbow Network will provide education, nutrition, medical care, housing and small loans for the rural families with which it partners in Nicaragua. *** Children whose parent is in prison will be enabled to go visit them in a family focused visiting center. The can receive overnight lodging at a very minimal cost. *** All that, and a lot more. The total value each year adds up to about $1,000,000. The work goes on all year long, but culminates each year the third weekend in October. About half a thousand youth come each year to learn about poverty in the world, and to provide much of the labor to process the food and items. This all occurs because persons in 31 faith groups put aside theological differences and focus on the core values of their faith- justice, love, mercy and righteousness.
