IT IS NOT ALL THAT YOU SEE OR HEAR THAT YOU SHOULD BELIEVE.........BECAUSE WE LIVE IN A WICKED WORLD.........! It was a Monday morning at the office and the workers were all hurriedly trooping into their offices. The boss in the big government corporation looked pleased as the young employee walked up to him in the corridor. The young man was clearly coming in to offer his gratitude as expected “thank you sir, I am highly pleased with the way you assisted me! If not for you how would I have been promoted?”the young man was still smiling as he bowed profusely before his boss “Don’t worry my son” replied the boss as he extended his hand which the young man quickly lapped on like dog on ice cream “I always do what I can for my best workers and you are one” the boss said, smiling with contentment. But as the boss turned in satisfaction and walked away, the employee squeezed his mouth back in full glee thinking “foolish man, if not that I took the precaution of moving that his lost handkerchief to the babalawo shrine, how would he have forwarded my name above that of his kinsman?” – We live in a wicked world. As he opened the front door the wife shouted from her seating place in delight “oh darling praise God you are back! How was the Abuja trip?” The man stretches his two hands across towards his back in an exaggerated attempt to let off the accumulated stress “oh darling the meeting was hectic! Just imagine us staying in the conference room for four hours? I had to catch the late hours flight to be back home in time, waooo I really missed you and the kids, thank God, I just can’t wait to come back home, thank you Jesus” But as the wife moved nearer to help with his jacket t the man shifted inwards in shock as he made attempt to elude her while thinking “ oh my God! Let this woman not move nearer and pick the smell of a lady’s perfume..those two days with Jodeine in the hotel in town I pray had not left any smell on me” – we live in a wicked world. The girl looked shyly away from her boyfriend as she managed out some nice soft words “ Oh John, we need to give ourselves to dedication in prayers and fasting before the Lord as we think about the future of our relationship” she said. The boy smiled cutely and patted her right shoulders “oh dearest, you and God again! Anyway, I know! That’s why I love you so much, I believed you are right” he said. She looked up at him with a more serious composure “of course I am serious John, we need to always be in prayers” she said and then looked over her shoulders “please John, its getting late now, I shouldn’t be found outside I need to go back in the house you know how strict my parents are” she was looking a little worried with the scared innocence of a nun caught off in the traffic near a brothel. The young man smiled and nodded his head by way of agreement “ of course Mary, I know and that’s why I love my future parents in laws so much too, it was to their efforts that they are handing to me a virgin” he playfully pushed her by the shoulders. She looked away shyly, unable to look into his eyes again “ oh John...stop teasing me, I told you it was because am in a prison at home and not that am better than other girls of my age group” and with that she turned to walk back into the house “ good bye John, please say your prayers before u go to sleep’’, she said over her shoulders to him,“of course sweetheart, goodnight Mary dear” he waved back. But as she walked back into the house her mind was in a deep thoughts “Virgin ke? Vaseline ni! I think when I left virgin him mama never start to de use stick walk! This small boy thinks it was his 1000 naira a week gift that is keeping me looking good? If not for the last weekend with Senator Akumele at Abuja when I was supposed to be at school, how would I even afford this dress on me? Abeg make I quick enter house before my friends sight me near that small boy and his Jianchiang motorcycle, mmmhh! minimum wage man!” – We live in a wicked world! The shopkeeper in one of the big supermarket in the city of Lagos, looked very officious when he handed over the package to the customer “ sir , I had to give you another discount on two of the items in the package, you are a very valuable customer you know” he said with a patronizing smile. The customer nodded his understanding as he collected the package “ thank you Michael, I appreciate it as always, thanks again” replied the customer as he collected the package and left. But as he was going out, the shopkeeper looked at his back and was thinking “oh! thank God, he is always stupid enough not to ask which items, it would be an embarrassment if he was to check on the next store and find out how we had been fleecing him” – we live in a wicked world. The young man stood erect like an electric pole in front of his boss in the office as he received a dose of appreciation. It wasn’t the first time in their relationship, the proceedings had become like a routine anytime the boss travels out and leaves him in charge “my dear Paul, as always I find it very necessarily to always extend my appreciation for the excellent way you handled the place in my absence, I see your new additions....I just don’t know what we can do without you” he said with all seriousness as he showered the employee with encomiums. The young man standing in his front was shifting his head and nodding up and down happily like a trained monkey, and with all seriousness as he was being applauded by his boss “ thank you sir, I am highly motivated by your words to do more” he said cheerfully. But as he turned to move out of the office the boss was looking at his back with a deep frown and thinking “you would like to do more abi? Imagine the impudence of this small boy! I was just gone for a week and this stupid boy was acting as if he was already in charge and changing things all over the place. Just wait till you buy trouble for yourself, You would be surprised what would come to you” – we live in a wicked world! We live in a wicked world and need to constantly look unto our God for protection and guidance!
