IT IS NOT FROM THE USUUL OF THE DEEN TO USE THE DOMEER KUM FOR ALLAAH. All adorations and praise be to Allaah; We beseech His Peace and Blessings upon Noble Prophet Muhammad(Sollallaahu alayhi wasallam). Many of muslims especially in Southwestern Nigeria which am more abreast with supplicate to Allaah using the domeer(pronoun) kum instead of the domeer ka. They therefore say Olohun E jo E shaanu wa meaning Allaah please have mercy on us(in the plural phrase) instead of correctly saying Olohun jo shaanu wa meaning Allaah please mercy on us(in the singular phrase). Allaah is One and does not need any wording of respect from you in your relationship with Him like in your solaat, dua e.t.c. Allaah says in suuratul Ikhlaas that: Say(Oh Muhammad): Allaah is One. This is why Allaah says in suuratul Faatiha that: Iyyaka naabudu(You alone we worship) In the verse above; Allaah never taught us to say: Iyyakum Naabudu; simply because he is One and not more than One which the domeer kum will assume it. In many ahaadeeth; we find the Prophet establishing the wording ka for Allaah and not kum. An example is the hadeeth reported by Jaabir bn Abdillaah on Istikhaara; where the Prophet taught them to say: Allaahumma innee astakheeruka bi-Ilmika......... Viewing the wordings of the hadeeth, the Prophet mentioned: astakheeruka and Ilmika; and he never said: Astakheerukum nor Ilmikum. This is simply Allaah is One and in the context of the arabic language; the domeer ka is used for a single person(al-mukhaatob) while kum is used for the plural form of more than two persons(I.e three or more). So it is from tawheed to relate with Allaah using the pronoun ka and not kum as some muslims wrongly say. Therefore, it is wrong for you to say: Olohun a be yin kee fun wa ni nkan(Allaah we beseech You(in plural form) to grant us something). This statement is known with the non-muslims especially the christians when they supplicate. And the Prophet says as reported in sunan of Imaam Abuu Daawud that: Whosoever(from the muslims) that imitates(or acts in accordance) to some people is considered as one of them. Therefore you should rather correctly say: Olohun a be e ko fun wa ni nkan(Allaah we beseech You(in singular form) to grant us something). And Allaah knows best.
