IT is not difficult to notice in the Bible that there are different aspects of faith. For instance, the Bible speaks of little faith and great faith; weak faith and strong faith; dead faith and miraculous faith, to mention a few. It is therefore important that we be aware of these aspects as they will help in our understanding and use of faith. Ultimately, our faith must be developed to the point where we come into the full measure of Christ’s faith. His level of faith is the Christians’ goal. Hebrews 12: 2 tells us that we must “fix our eyes on Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith.” The Greek verb aphoraō means “to look away from all else at, fix one’s gaze upon.”1 In Christ, faith reaches its ultimate, or is made complete. He is the captain and completer of faith, the object of faith, and the ultimate and complete example of it. This is not a casual glance, but a deliberate fixing of the eye on Christ. Keeping our eyes fixed on Jesus is the only safe way of developing faith. In this act, the person’s will is involved. Therefore, we must deliberately look away from all else that would turn us aside and concentrate totally on Him.
