ITS A NEW YEAR! Happy New Year y’all. Can you believe we’ve already blown through the holidays and into a new year ? Well it sure seems to have gone fast for us. Over the last several years we learned a lot about the GSP breed and the ins and outs of owning them, caring for them, and showing them. This year though, was a whole different animal. We learned about ‘making new ones’, and all that goes along with that. It’s amazing. There’s a ton of homework to be done just to select the right animals to breed. We are fortunate to have won the cooperation of some real experts in the evaluation of pedigrees, and tried to absorb all that we were told and advised. Even though your selections are all AKC Champions, the next step is to have a series of tests and clearances done. This is is a long and comprehensive list designed to “prove” the quality and condition of the animals so the breed is maintained at a high level and progeny (that means the babies - LOL) are superior. You weigh the differences and possible advantages between natural breeding and artificial insemination (We prefer the old fashioned way). It’s a little exhaustive, but the proof has definitely been in the pudding, as the saying goes. We’ve established a strong relationship with the best vets we can find. We use, and endorse,Brittmore Animal Hospital, off of I-10, in Houston. They have helped us immeasurably, and advised us in the proper care and treatment of our puppies and grown dogs as well. We advise you that having a relationship with a vet that knows you and your animal/s is a must.
