Ian Kelly for SU President So what qualifies me, a humble Carlovian, to run for Carlow College Student Union President? First of all, I have been a volunteer all my life so I have contacts with many organisations around the carlow area. In my second year of college, I was a founding member of the Carlow College Drama Society. It was through this society that I, as chairperson, put on a play for the college and donated the proceeds to setting up the Student Assistance Fund. In my third year of college, I became the Welfare Officer for the student union. It was in this role that I set up multiple campaigns around the college such as Road Safety Awareness. I also set up an initiative known as Mental Health Mondays where a campaign is set up on the first Monday of every month with a different theme each time e.g. suicide awareness. It was through this welfare role that I gained extensive knowledge as to how to run a Students Union. In this my fourth year of college, I am currently a class representative to my Humanities class. In this role, I represent the students in any problems they may have. I am also an employee of the college, working as security there at night. Recently, I have worked at organizing events for LGBT Awareness Week. I am also a Catechetics student - I have been on teaching placement for the last two years of college. I also have been regularly helping at mass in the college for reading and the like and have a close relationship with the chaplaincy. I also am able for the craic, as some of you may know me from winning the Iron Stomach competition earlier this year in the SU. I hope all of this is useful to you
