Iceland has caught its first two fin whales for 2014. Last Saturday, the whaling vessel Hvalur 8 returned to Icelands Hvalfjörður with two dead fin whales hanging by its side. A single Icelandic whaling operation - led by Kristian Loftsson - continues to catch fin whales for commercial export to Japan under a self-allocated quota of 154 whales a year. The fin whale is classified as an endangered species by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.
