Id like to make a further report on a very interesting thing Ive noticed about the television show Law and Order. As Ive mentioned, I have not watched television for over twenty years. But Ive always liked mysteries and true-to-life police procedurals. Some time back, in the break room at work, the guys were watching an episode of L and O. It seemed very interesting. So I went on Netflix and started watching some of the back episodes of all three spinoffs of the show. I found them very well done, the characters were excellent and the stories interesting and topical. I did notice one oddity, however. After having watched almost fifty episodes, the show did not have a single black perpetrator. Not one. Now the show takes place in New York, my home town. Im quite familiar with the crime patterns in the city. I know that over 60% of the crimes are committed by blacks even thought they only make up 25% of the population. So not one single black perpetrator? It got to the point where, when they brought in a black suspect, Id shout at the screen He didnt do it. It was the white guy! And I was right every time! Now Ive watched over seventy episodes and, while there have been one or two blacks, it is still almost entirely white criminals. One episode that I watched the other night was about an African immigrant who had three wives. One of the wives was killed and the cops brought in a murderous drug lord who, they believed, had killed the woman to intimidate the African into silence about a drug deal he witnessed. The drug lord was acquitted but continued to harass the African. Then another of his wives is murdered. The African is suspected. He is defended by a beautiful white female lawyer who had helped his family come to America. The lawyer was the only white person on the show so it had to be her, right? Right! Turns out the beautiful white lawyer was also married to the African and loved him so much she was jealous of his other wives and murdered them! Tonight I watched an episode in which the cops were trying to bring down two guys, a Russian and a black guy, who were smuggling exotic animals into the country. Finally they trapped the two guys and I thought Finally, a black perp! Nope. Wrong. The Russian was the bad guy and the black guy was an undercover cop! Am I the only one thats noticed this?
