Id love to support local businesses, but heres a couple of examples of why it can be so difficult. I need glasses so Ive been calling around to see what kind of deals are out there. Ive checked at two places in the Valley so far and one in New Sudbury. The place in New Sudbury charges $80 for an eye exam but if you purchase glasses from them they will give you $25 off. One place in the Valley charges $90 for the eye exam and the other charges $95 with neither place giving a discount if you purchase glasses from them. I have some more calls to make, but it looks like Ill be getting my glasses in Sudbury. Im looking to join a gym. I checked into Snap Fitness and its about $50 per month. New World Gym in the Rainbow Centre downtown has a $10 per month membership. Obviously the cost of travel will have to be taken into account, but since I have to go to Sudbury a couple of times a week, the $10 per month cost is the better deal for sure. With the cost of everything going up and wages staying the same I dont know how local businesses can expect us to pay more for something we can get 15 minutes away. Reality is harsh.
