Id really like to hear your thoughts on a few questions but first - TopicsExpress

Id really like to hear your thoughts on a few questions but first let me share a bit. - By now most of you have heard of Brittany Maynard. Death is not easy to face. Its not an easy topic to even talk about. I think its safe to say most of us would rather talk about anything else and a lot of us would quickly joke about it and prefer to get on to another subject. We probably fear it if were honest with ourselves. Many of of us dont even have living wills (if you dont get one by the way). Ive had friends pass away from serious cancer and illness. My grandma and stepdad both died of pancreatic cancer which took them pretty quickly but for at least 3-4 weeks they were too drugged up to feel much. Ive also had more friends commit suicide than Id like to count. I cant even imagine how I would respond if my mother told me that when she gets to a certain point she wants to have the plug pulled or the option to opt out of prolonged suffering. Miracles can happen but death is still inevitable. While my gut says people should have the choice I am concerned that if aid in dying became readily accepted in all states it might result in the abuse of people who others feel are a burden. Are we cowards if we choose to opt out of prolonged suffering and chose to leave this world surrounded with our loved ones together, or is it braver to grasp at survival for a few more moments when Death comes to take us? Is it easier to close our eyes and deny whats coming or more noble to gasp in pain for that last breath? Is it more loving to make our loved ones watch us wreath in pain till the very end or gather them together while we could still say goodbyes in a celebration of life and legacy? ***Please realize youre talking to other PEOPLE here. Ive seen so many sick, twisted and selfish comments about this story it makes me sick.
