Ideological Separatism, Blogging, and You Ideological - TopicsExpress

Ideological Separatism, Blogging, and You Ideological separatists are easy to spot. Their tone is usually angry and they rant a lot. Theyre almost always devoid of humor. They believe the glass is half empty, never half full. Politics is a matter of picking between lesser evils and avoided at all costs. Ideology is safer and requires less work. The apocalypse is always right around the corner, especially if you dont take heed of their warnings. Theyll occasionally find a hero only to be disillusioned after theyve compromised the principles for which they supported them, as if governance isnt a principle and the sun revolves around them. The job of those who dare correspond is to agree with them. The claim theyre self-righteous is totally ridiculous--a perverted attempt to silence them. What does matter is their ideology and whether they can convert you. They blog for the purpose of disseminating the prism through which they see the world. Not much else interests them. In effect, they are the new secular messiahs. Heres the story: I first became aware of ideological separatism when discussing with an old friend from the Viet Nam days her voting choices through the years. She and her husband are old anti-war comrades. Ive never had anything but the deepest respect for them personally. I still do. She assured me she never votes for Republicans or Democrats, only third party candidates if she votes at all. The major parties in her view are morally bankrupt, the candidates mostly corrupt. As we assumed in our youth, the system is rotten to the core. As much as she hated George W. Bush, for instance, that meant she did not vote against him. That included his re-election after it became clear he took the country to war under false pretenses. It isnt only former war protestors and their intellectual progeny who are ideologically fixated. Many do not care whether the other side wins if they dont get their way. Ideology trumps any other consideration, even ones own self-interest. Democracy has little value for them otherwise, or simply doesnt show up in their equation. Whether the ideology is left or right, it doesnt matter. The true enemy is not the other fringe, its the center, who refuses to bend to their will. ~ Ben Sens Blog, Politics, Culture and Religion Without Projections (Read more:open.salon/blog/ben_sen/2013/06/22/ideological_separatism)
