If God is not your purpose, your desire, and your obsession, then what is? Whatever that is, it is your idol. Every day we face hardships. We are driven by value. If the value of getting up outweighs the value of laying down, then you get up. We assign value to everything. I am not crazy about fish, but I love a good steak. When faced with a decision on whether or not to eat steak or fish, I will choose steak every time. I do this because to me the value of steak is incomparable to the value of fish. So how does this relate to my first statement? Your obsession is what will move you most. Therefore, what you value most is your obsession. Our problem is our attention to multiple values. Those values change often and are seldom the same. I usually go to the gym six days a week; However, I will take a second day off because the value of getting extra sleep outweighs the value of going to the gym that night. Quite often, though, the value of the work out usually wins over. What I would like everyone to see is the constant changing of values. Those changes are usually always based on our ever changing preferences. What I want us to Center on is that these are fleshly influences. Our obsession always needs to be God. He needs to be the driving force for everything we do. This means that all of our values need to be God driven. Only then we can step away from the flesh and move into the spiritual.
