If I could do anything in my life over again, it would be this: I would take the time to really know every one of the kids I went to school with. I would not make assumptions that everyone had the same great life I did. As I have grown older, I have learned so very very much about some of my classmates, their trials and tribulations, and I find myself wishing I had known way back then.......maybe I could have done something, what I dont know, but I have always been a real trooper for not giving up. For those who came to my house and asked if I knew how to fix peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and we ate one on the steps while we talked or shot marbles, I wish you would have simply told me if you were hungry, I would have packed you a lunch. For those who wanted me to have a wiener roast, I would have fixed you a hot dog anytime if you would have asked. For those of you who wanted to spend the night with me and you were never asked, if you would have told me, we could have had a pizza slumber party if I had only known. If you are a student, please take time to really know your peers. Sometimes just a smile, a hug, a friendly face, or even a peanut butter and jelly sandwich can make a world of difference to someone who has so many silent problems with no one to share them with.
