If I could structure minimum wage in this godforsaken country I would base it on two things. 1) Years spent at your place of work, and 2) level of qualification. Call it a point system, years count for points and a list of qualifications would be drawn up for points depending on the field. Once you accumulate enough points you move to the next pay grade, companies would be free to pay more than the tier system if they so choose. This way, we eliminate at least some arguments as to why high school workers should get paid what they do and it would also balance workplace pay between the guy who has been there for 15 years without academic training and the fresh employee who just got out with 4 years of training, if you have both you get more. It seems simple. Minimum wage isnt liveable these days and it isnt just something for high school students with part time jobs. I know nothing about economics, so Im sure there are huge flaws with my ideas. Just wishful thinking is all.
